Joshua Hettwer is a Chicago-based musician, educator, and proud dad of two young girls. He discovered his love for early childhood music while singing, dancing, and strumming guitar with them at home, and now brings that same energy and playfulness to his classes at Bubbles Academy.

A multi-instrumentalist who will try making music with just about anything he can get his hands on, Mr. Josh has spent most of his musical life with a saxophone and clarinet nearby. He holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Jazz Studies from the University of Oregon and has taught kids of all ages—leading sectionals at band camps and coaching young improvisers at jazz camps across Oregon. He has also served as a jazz festival adjudicator and toured nationally for several years as a saxophonist and clarinetist with a multi-platinum swing band.

Since moving to Chicago in 2018, Mr. Josh has built a career as a versatile performer and arranger, playing everything from early jazz and Latin music to Broadway pit orchestras and pop cover bands. These days, he’s happiest when he’s making music with little ones, helping them explore sound, rhythm, and joy through song and movement.
